Custom Semantle
If you are looking for a unique, brand-new puzzle game, you can try Custom Semantle. An interesting and thought-provoking aspect of this game is its emphasis on the semantic similarity of words rather than their spelling, which gives it a unique twist. Make a valid one-word prediction. The game takes into account how the guess word is used in relation to related terms in a database of newspaper stories, rather than just looking at spelling similarities.
How to play
- Using the player-supplied words as a basis, Custom Semantle attempts to deduce the secret word. Players are required to use proper terms while submitting their guesses. In order to determine how semantically close the guess word is to the secret word, the game uses Word2vec technology. The game takes into account the context of the guess word in relation to comparable words found in a database of news items, rather than depending on standard spelling similarities.
- Each guess is given a similarity number that represents how semantically close it is to the secret word. An identical match and a good estimate are indicated with a similarity score of 100, the maximum achievable. Practically speaking, the lowest possible similarity score is far higher than the theoretical minimum of about -34. You can see how close your guess is to the secret word with the "Getting close" indication. With 1000 being the target word, the rank of the estimate is determined based on whether it is one of the 1,000 normal words that are closest to it. Words that are not within one thousand words of the correct answer are deemed "cold." In Custom Semantle, players guess a hidden word by considering how semantically related it is to their suggestions. It's a creative and thought-provoking way to pass the time.
